Holtville’s inaugural flag football season is off to an undefeated start, and now the Lady Dawgs are preparing for their first region test.
The Holtville Lady Dawgs are back home Wednesday night as they prepare to face Marbury in a key region matchup at Boykin-Chapman Field.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, as Holtville looks to protect its undefeated record and pick up an important region victory.
The matchup comes during what is already shaping up to be a memorable inaugural season for the Holtville High School flag football program.
Lady Dawgs Start Inaugural Season 2-0
Holtville officially began its first varsity flag football season on August 25, opening at home against Wetumpka.
The Lady Dawgs wasted little time making history, earning the program’s first regular-season victory with a 12-6 win over the Indians.
Holtville followed that performance with an impressive road victory over Trinity Presbyterian on September 3, defeating the Wildcats 31-13 and improving to 2-0.
What makes Holtville’s early success particularly noteworthy is that the 2026 season marks the beginning of the school’s flag football program.
Before the regular season began, Holtville participated in the first Battle on the Coosa preseason tournament at the Wetumpka Sportsplex.
Head coach Slade Holley said during the preseason that the Lady Dawgs were already showing a willingness to compete, learn and do whatever was needed for the team.
That attitude has translated quickly into regular-season success.
Through two games, Holtville has not only remained undefeated but has shown an ability to win in different ways, surviving a close defensive battle against Wetumpka and then pulling away for a decisive victory against Trinity.
Now comes another milestone.
Wednesday’s meeting with Marbury will bring Holtville into region competition for the first time.
The Lady Dawgs will have the advantage of playing in front of their home crowd at Boykin-Chapman Field as they look to improve to 3-0 and begin region play with a victory.
For a program only two games into its history, the Lady Dawgs have already given Holtville plenty to cheer about.
Now they’ll look to keep that momentum going.
Fans are encouraged to pack the stands, bring the noise and support the Lady Dawgs as they continue making history in the program’s inaugural season.
